Perimenopause is the transitional period leading up to menopause, where the female body begins to make less estrogen and a series of changes begin to happen in our physiology. It can start in a woman's 40s (or even earlier) and lasts until menopause, the point when the ovaries stop releasing eggs. Menopause is diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period and marks the end of menstrual cycles. It's a natural biological process that has physical symptoms like hot flashes and emotional symptoms due to hormonal changes. During this time, the decrease in estrogen levels can affect health, mood, and often leads to changes in the skin's appearance and texture.
As our bodies experience changes in nutrient absorption, hormone production, and other systemic physiological changes, so does our skin! As we go through these changes, our skin will needs more care and attention to nutrition than ever before.
Dullness, grayness, and dryness often signal the changes experienced by skin during perimenopause. Redness and sensitivity can also be signs. Recognizing these signs allows for targeted care. Here at Beaute Nouveau, we are committed to supporting skin in every cycle of life and our formulations provide the rich nutrition and extra care that skin needs during perimenopause and menopause.

As women journey from perimenopause to menopause, their skincare requirements evolve. The skin's ability to retain moisture diminishes, necessitating richer, more potent hydrators. Collagen production slows, and the need for firming and plumping agents becomes paramount. It's a time to embrace more nourishing routines that cater to skin's changing structure and composition. Beaute Nouveau recognizes this pivotal transition, offering products like Oil Nouveau that are specifically formulated to support and celebrate your skin's maturation with every application.
Oil Nouveau is a super-concentrated facial oil, blended from six of the finest oils available. These oils are packed with Vitamins A, C, E, and Beta Carotene, plus Essential Amino Acids 3, 6, and 9 - and the rarest 5. These oils have incredible benefits to the skin. They are known to reduce inflammation and redness, softening fine lines and wrinkles, improving elasticity and collagen production, firm skin, reduce the appearance of pigmentation, and balance the hormones in skin. This blend is extremely nourishing, hydrating, and protects the skin with some of the most potent anti-oxidants found on the planet.
Beaute Nouveau's Hyaluronic Elixir is like a big drink of water for your skin, perfect for the changes that come with perimenopause and menopause. It's super simple: just 1% Hyaluronic Acid, which is a magic ingredient that holds onto water like a sponge, and 99% water. This combo plumps up your skin, making it look fresh and full of life.
Hyaluronic Acid is great at pulling in water to keep your skin hydrated. But to get the most out of it, you should start with a spritz of Facial Mist before you put on the Elixir, and then lock all that moisture in with Creme Nouveau right after. This way, you make sure your skin stays hydrated and doesn't lose any precious water.
Our bodies already love Hyaluronic Acid because it's naturally found in our skin and eyes, keeping them moist and healthy. Beaute Nouveau's Elixir is all about giving your skin that natural boost, helping it to stay flexible and soft through all the stages of life.
Unveiling another well-kept secret, gentle daily exfoliation is pivotal for maintaining vibrant skin through perimenopause and menopause. Beaute Nouveau advocates ditching the abrasive exfoliators for more harmonious and tender natural fibers like Cotton and Konjac. Natural fibers lead the charge as the kindest method to daily renew your skin's surface.
Our Yuzu Oil Cleaner used nightly on Cotton Pads work together to dissolve makeup, dislodge environmental particles, and lift away dead skin cells to soften and smooth skin with minimal sensitivity. We also advocate exfoliating after moisturizing to saturate dead skin cells and allow them to lift off gently with the least amount of aggravation. The daily ritual of applying Crème Nouveau followed by gently wiping the skin with a cotton pad offers both nourishment, and a delicate polish.
We also suggest adding extra exfoliation during cleansing. Use our Konjac Sponge paired with any facial cleanser for a mild but effective exfoliation. These sponges respect your skin's pH balance and ensuring even the most sensitive complexions can benefit from daily exfoliation and the glow of health. These are so gentle they can be used on the eye area as well.
By integrating these gentle exfoliation methods, Beaute Nouveau empowers you to unveil a fresh, radiant complexion every day, ensuring that your skin care ritual is as nurturing as it is effective.

Navigating the intricate world of skincare can be perplexing, but decoding skincare labels is a crucial skill that can empower consumers. Understanding skincare product labels and the ingredient listing is pivotal for making informed decisions that align with one’s skincare needs and ethical values. It allows consumers to select products that resonate with their skincare philosophies and avoid those that conflict with their skin types or ethical beliefs.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Skincare labels typically list ingredients in descending order of concentration, with the first ingredient being the most abundant. However, ingredients present in concentrations less than 1% can be listed in any order. Recognizing the scientific names, which might seem daunting, is standard and crucial for consumer education. This knowledge enables consumers to discern the primary active ingredients in their skincare products and understand the potential benefits and effects on their skin.
Transparency in ingredient listing is paramount in fostering trust between the brand and the consumer. It allows individuals to avoid ingredients they might be allergic to or find undesirable. Beaute Nouveau exemplifies this transparency, providing clear and comprehensive ingredient lists for all their products, emphasizing their commitment to product integrity and natural skincare.
Creme Nouveau by Beaute Nouveau is a radiant example of ingredient transparency. It is meticulously crafted with a blend of botanical oils, butters, and beeswax, offering nourishment and hydration to the skin. The detailed ingredient list on the product page ensures consumers know exactly what they are applying to their skin, reflecting Beaute Nouveau’s dedication to consumer education and wholesome skincare.
The product is free from synthetic fragrances, colors, and preservatives, underscoring the brand's commitment to clean, natural skincare. This approach allows consumers to choose products with confidence, knowing they are free from harmful ingredients and align with a philosophy of ethical, conscious beauty.
Understanding ingredient concentrations is key when examining skincare labels. High concentrations of active ingredients can deliver potent effects but might also increase the risk of skin irritation. Conversely, products with low concentrations of active ingredients might not yield the desired results. Knowing your skin’s tolerance levels is key to selecting the right products.
Consumers should be vigilant about potentially harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances, which can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. These ingredients can have adverse effects on the skin and overall health, and being informed about them is crucial for maintaining skin wellness. Beaute Nouveau’s commitment to avoiding such ingredients and their transparent labeling allow consumers to choose products with confidence.
Packaging also plays a crucial role in conveying product information. It should clearly state the product’s purpose, usage directions, and any warnings or precautions. Beaute Nouveau’s packaging is designed to be informative and user-friendly, aiding consumers in making educated choices about their skincare routines. Proper packaging ensures that consumers have all the necessary information at their fingertips to use the products safely and effectively.
When examining a skincare label, the order of ingredients is crucial. Ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration, meaning the first ingredient is the most abundant in the formula, and the last is the least. Typically, the top third of the list comprises 90-95% of the product. This order provides insight into the product’s potency and effectiveness. However, ingredients present in concentrations less than 1% can be listed in any order. For consumers seeking specific skincare benefits, such as hydration or anti-aging, focusing on the first few ingredients is key. This order helps in identifying the primary active ingredients and understanding their concentration levels, allowing consumers to make informed decisions based on their skincare needs and preferences, and choose products that align with their skincare goals effectively.
Understanding and decoding skincare labels is more than just knowing what’s in your products; it’s about making conscious, informed decisions about what you put on your skin. It’s about aligning your skincare routine with your values and ensuring that the products you use contribute to your overall well-being and skin health. It’s a journey to conscious beauty, where every product chosen is a step towards healthier, more radiant skin.

We believe that gentle daily exfoliation is a very important part of keeping our skin's youthful glow and antiaging resilience. As we age, the production of skin cells slows and exfoliation acts as a gentle reminder to keep the cell turnover process going, and even to speed it up. As we age, the shedding of dead skin begins to slow and our natural oil production decreases as well. All of this together, makes thicker layers of dead skin cells which can make skin feel rough, look dull, get clogged, and makeup look heavier and cakier.
The slowing of cell turnover and sloughing of dead skin, plus less oil production can be effectively increased with a key exfoliation products and techniques woven into your daily skin care routine.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Exfoliation can have two meanings. First, exfoliation is the natural process where skin sloughs off dead skin from its surface. Second, exfoliation can also refer to the process or method of removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin physically or chemically. Physical exfoliants are products or tools that have granules or some way of scrubbing or scraping dead skin cells from skin. Chemical exfoliants are products or solutions that dissolve skin cells from the surface of skin.
Exfoliation is important because it has an impact on its function, its glow, and its texture. Too much dead skin can slow skin down, make it look dull, clog pores, create breakouts, and make skin feel rough.
Skin cells are born in the basal layer. Each day, these new cells travel upward towards the surface. As they travel towards the surface, they push the layers of cells that were born before them closer to the surface in a process called “keratinization”. As we age, the production of skin cells slows and exfoliation acts as a gentle reminder to keep the cell turnover process going.
As we age, not only does the production of skin cells begin to slow, two other processes slow down at the same time. First, the process of shedding dead skin cells (called "desquamation) slows, and second, our oil production decreases. All of this together, makes thicker layers of dead skin cells which make skin feel rough, look dull and clogged, and makeup look heavier and cakier.
We like to think about gentle daily exfoliation for skin health, just like we think about daily teeth brushing for gum health! Daily care goes a long way! Can you imagine how intense the trip to the dentist would be if you didn't brush your teeth every day?
Just like plaque builds up everyday, so do dead skin cells. It is important to keep up with their removal in gentle and consistent ways vs trying to remove thicker layers at one time with more invasive or aggressive treatments.
We believe that the best way to keep layers of dead skin as thin as possible and speed up the birthing of new baby skin cells is with gentle daily exfoliation techniques in between weekly, monthly, and professional treatments.
If you are going to exfoliate everyday, there are some important tips to know. It is crucial to remember that skin is a living organ and over exfoliation can damage it. That is why we encourage the most gentle options for exfoliation. It is important to curate a daily exfoliation routine that cares for the skin as you exfoliate and treats the skin very gently.
Natural Fibers is the most gentle form of physical exfoliation and we feel they are the only way to exfoliate daily. The two kinds of natural fibers that we feel are the most effective ways to remove daily dead skin build up and encourage new layers of living cells beneath are Cotton and Konjac fibers.
Keep reading to learn how to use Cotton and Konjac Fibers for daily exfoliation to increase your skin's natural glow!
Gross out alert! Dead skin cells are like microscopic scabs. They get dried out and stick to the skin underneath and need to be prepared for exfoliation. The best way to remove them is to rehydrate and plump them up with light weight, non-comedogenic plant oils. As we age and produce less oil naturally, it is more important to use plant oils to aid in the removal of dead skin.
Once the oils have saturated the dead skin cells and unstuck them from the fresh skin underneath, they can be easily picked up and whisked away by the natural fibers of a dry cotton pad. Our Yuzu Oil Cleanser has been specially created for this exact purpose. It flawlessly removed eye and face makeup and prepares skin for cotton exfoliation in the evening.
Yuzu Oil Cleanser is an Eye & Face Makeup Remover that breaks down makeup and environmental debris, and loosens dead skin cells so the cotton fibers can pick them up. This process adds oil to the skin to aid in the gentle exfoliation of top layers of dead skin, while inflicting no irritation to living skin cells below. Yuzu essential oil is also a varietal of citrus that breaks up congestion deep in the pores.
This technique is similar to using cotton with Yuzu Oil Cleanser because the butters and oils in Crème Nouveau rehydrate and plump the dead skin to be picked up by the cotton fibers too. The main difference is that we suggest using this method in the morning to remove dead skin right before applying makeup for longer wearing, smoother makeup.
Crème Nouveau is a nourishing moisturizer that is rich in botanical butters and oils. While the skin absorbs the butters and oils, they also loosen the dead skin on the surface. We suggest applying your Crème Nouveau, then wait 5 minutes, then wipe off the excess crème and dead skin cells away with a dry cotton pad.

Konjac fibers are used to make Konjac Facial Sponges and are the perfect tool to pair with foaming facial cleanser for cleansing and exfoliation. They create a very even cleansing experience and also gently lift off dead skin during cleansing. They are safe for even the most sensitive skins and can be used every time you wash your face.
Konjac Sponges are made from 100% konjac fibers that are similar to potatoes. They gently exfoliate, balance pH, and soften skin. They can be used daily with any of our facial cleansers and are beneficial for boosting radiance, clarifying texture, and can be used on even the most sensitive skin and delicate areas.
The skin naturally sloughs off its own dead skin, but why not help it along a bit! Using Cotton and Konjac Fibers daily to help support skin's natural exfoliation process will improve cell turnover, skin texture, and increase glow!

Eye cream is a skin care product specifically formulated for the delicate skin around the eye area. It is an essential part of any skincare routine. It is important to apply eye cream every day to keep your skin hydrated and protected. Most eye creams also offer additional benefits for reducing puffiness, dark circles, and minimizing fine lines. In general, eye creams should be applied around the eye area and on the eyelids.
There are many different types of eye creams available. There are eye serums, eye creams, and eye, crèmes, and balms. They are available in jars, tubes, roller ball applicators, and most recently as masks. Eye creams are also available in different weights or textures such as liquid, gel, cream, crème or balm. Traditionally, the main difference between these textures is the addition of more or less water. Serums and gels typically have the highest concentration of water, whereas creams have less water, and crèmes and balms often have little or no water. Eye serums and gels are typically referred to as the lightest weights, whereas eye creams are a mid-weight, and crèmes or balms are the heaviest weight. The heavier the weight, typically, the more nourishment and protection.
There are many benefits of using an eye cream or treatment product for around the eyes. The most popular claim for eye creams is to reduce puffiness and dark circles, as well as build collagen and elastic to minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Eye creams can also be said to make skin appear firmer and brighter.
One main mistake is to choose an eye cream or other type of eye product that claims to be natural, but actually has chemicals. It is important to scrutinize the ingredients label of any product, whether it is for the eyes, face, or body. It is common for companies to claim their products are natural, when in reality there are only some botanical ingredients in a base of petrochemicals.
Over time, the tissues structures and muscles around the eyes begin to weaken and thin and the skin becomes more elastic and less firm. This is the common cause of conditions such as puffiness, dark circles, eye lid drooping, and fine lines. Using eye creams that have chemicals can exacerbate the aging process because skin has to work over time to process them and remove them as harmful waste.
Another common mistake in using eye creams is to apply them with your ring, or forefinger. The ring, or forefinger is the strongest finger and puts too much pressure on the delicate eye area. The best finger to apply an eye cream is your fourth, or wedding ring finger, because it is the weakest finger with the softest, fattest pad under the fingertip.
Our first suggestion is to avoid the 5 Dirtiest Cosmetic Ingredients when choosing an eye cream.
Second, choose a product with an appropriate weight. A good rule of thumb is based on age. Typically, the lighter weight gels are best for the teens through twenties. Creams are sufficient for the thirties. From the forties on up, reach for the cremes and balms. Serums can be applied under eye creams, cremes, and balms.
Third, choose a product with a plant or flower wax. Plants naturally produce wax to waterproof and protect the outer layers of their delicates leaves and flower petals, which makes it a perfect botanical ingredient for nourishing and protecting the delicate skin around the eye area.
In addition, choose a product that has natural extracts such as Cucumber and Arnica to stimulate circulation of lymphatic fluid and blood vessels to reduce puffiness and dark circles. Also, look for a product that has natural plant oils and butters such as Rosehip Seed Oil and Shea Butter to nourish with essential fatty acids, protect with antioxidants, and regenerate tissues with phytoproteins.
Our Eye Crème is an Anti-Aging Eye Balm that hydrates and protects eye area with botanical butters, rosehip oil, raw bees wax, and mimosa flower wax. It stimulates circulation with cucumber & arnica.
Kokum butter, Shea butter, Organic Glycerin, Babassu oil, Rosehip Seed oil, local raw Bees wax, Cucumber and Arnica Extracts, and Mimosa Flower Wax.
Puffiness is typically excess Lymphatic fluid that collects around the eye area. Dark Circles are typically blood flowing in the tiny capillaries under the eyes.
Caring for puffiness and dark circles starts with caring for the tissues and muscles around the eyes. The goal is to relieve any excess pressure or aggravation every day. Excess sodium, lack of water, alcohol, inactivity, rubbing or tugging of the eye area, animal hair makeup brushes, makeup removers and makeup wipes, and even just laying flat while sleeping can cause pressure and aggravation that will accelerate the weakening of the skin around the eyes over time.
Sea Salt, water, water, water, yoga, jumping exercises, daily lymphatic eye massage (see below), a plant-wax-based eye cream with cucumber and arnica (wink, wink 😉), synthetic fiber makeup brushes, Oil Cleanser for makeup removal, and gentle cleansing with a Shea Milk Soap on a Konjac sponge, sleeping slightly propped up (ideally, on a silk pillow case), and resting for 5-10 minutes in the morning with a Silk Eye Pillow on your eyes for gentle compression.
There is only so much an eye cream on it's own can do. So, if anyone ever tells you that a cream alone will solve puffiness and dark circles...
don't believe their hype.
PS: laugh lines are unavoidable...enjoy them!
They are evidence of a happy life!
Core Values guide everything we do at Beauté Nouveau. Core Values are key guiding principals for individuals and companies. Today, Beauté Nouveau®️ is a beauty company that was born out of the desire to create something new and innovative. We want to bring the beauty industry into the modern moment, with a focus on quality and real lifestyles and needs of women. We want to create a brand that is widely recognized and desired by women, with a focus on self-care and self-advocacy. We want to create a brand that is not only about products, but a brand that is about our core values as the basis for how we treat our customers and each other.
A core value is a guiding principal for individuals and companies. It is a value that helps individuals and companies to make decisions in their daily lives. Core values are key because they help individuals and companies to decide what is important and what is not.
Core values are as unique to each person as a thumbprint. Core values represent the blue print of what is truly important to people. Core values represent what we stand for. Core values guide decisions, behaviors, and communication. Core values also guide conflict, discord, and miscommunication. When we clearly understand and define our core values, they can be wonderful tools to help us maneuver our relationships, expectations, and interactions. However, when we lack clarity and are vague on our core values, we can spend a lot of time in conflict, confusion, and hurt.
It may sound cliche, but our core values, are the core of what we do and how we do it. Our core values are our compass for making decisions, caring for our customers, and caring for each other. They are our guiding lights. We use our core values to separate wrong from right. We use them as a tool to understand each other when we may be coming from different perspectives.
Identifying our Core Values is only the first step to applying core values to our daily lives. Once core values have been identified they must be defined in easy to digest meanings. For example, to us accountability is defined as "the state of being answerable or responsible for." But, what does that really mean? After defining a core value, we have to give it life! We have to create tools that can help us be aware of motives and behaviors that align, or don't align, with those core values. We have created "ask yourself" responses and sample behaviors that connect with each of our 9 core values.
Core Values are at the heart of our company. We have a set of core values that everyone in our company abides by. We also realize that every one of our team members has their own unique set of core values. We celebrate our how our individual and company core values complement each other and create robust relationships and understandings.
We also know that each of our customers have their own set of unique core values that align and attract them to what we do at Beaute Nouveau. One of the ways we are committed to celebrating the core values of all of our customers is by launching a unique E-Course created to help you know exactly WHAT your core values, WHY they are your core values, and HOW to use them to create boundaries, make decisions, diffuse conflict, and have crucial conversations? This course is going to be a GAME-CHANGER and we are SO excited to share it with you!
Does this leave you with a feeling of not-enough? Like, if you had enough, or were enough, why would you want more? And, if you want more, but don’t have it, isn’t there naturally not-enough?
At Beaute Nouveau, one of our missions is to really understand this feeling of not-enoughness and how it holds us back. How it keeps us stuck in the middle of wanting something...and in that wanting, we are reminded that something is missing.
But, IS something really missing? Or, has what we want, just not had the time to develop and unfold? How do we avoid the trap of not-enoughness and focus on letting the thing we want come to be? How do we live our best lives and access our full potential if we stop ourselves from having what we want?
We certainly don’t have the answer, but would love to hear your thoughts…and we think this quote is a lovely reminder as a mindset that “just because we can always be more, doesn’t mean we aren’t enough.

For more than a decade, San Diego has been a mecca for talented makers, inspired artisans, and mindful entrepreneurs. There are so many wonderful products and brands that are hand made in San Diego, and our very own Beaute Nouveau has been part of that movement since 2013.
Beaute Nouveau began with a vision for clean beauty made only from botanical ingredients, in a small studio workshop first in the neighborhood of South Park, then Mission Hills, and then Mission Valley. San Diego laid the foundation for this beautiful beauty brand with local events such as Makers Arcade, San Diego Made, and The Local Bazaar being the first reveals of the unique, hand made, clean skin care we all love so much. The support and encouragement from the community of other influencers, artisans, and shoppers looking to support and uplift their local brands was the wind beneath the wings of the company.
Ten years later, Beaute Nouveau is still soaring on the wind of San Diego supporters, local shops such as Native Poppy, Vocabulary Boutique, Wild Dove, Gallery at Lands End, and Wonderface (to name a few), and loves to be a part of this community that continues to value the endeavors of the artists, makers, and mindful business owners.
Beaute Nouveau is as committed as ever before to small batch, hand made products made from the finest botanical ingredients, intentionally crafted for amazing luxury skin care experiences. Whether you are an individual looking for decadently natural products to treat your delicate skin to, or you are a boutique, spa, or esthetician looking for a gorgeous line your clients will love, Beaute Nouveau will surprise and delight you! Our most famous is our Creme Nouveau.
All of the Beaute Nouveau recipes have been created in house by our Founder, Lacey Haegen. The brand is unique in that none of the products are private labeled from a large manufacturer. They have all been intentionally developed and hand made in San Diego. They are full of imagination and combine the finest botanical ingredients and are a modern interpretation of vintage recipes. No harsh chemicals or unpronounceable laboratory concoctions make it into these products. We prefer the ol' fashioned way and treat all of our products with the same love and adoration as a chef does their cuisine.
Beaute Nouveau means New Beauty in French. This name is inspired for a couple of reasons. First, French skin care culture is all about preservation, gentle care, and ritual. About old world elegance, atelier potions, and hand made apothecary from botanical ingredients. They also adore beautiful packaging and beautifully displaying their products for daily use. We also love the attitude of French beauty culture; the idea that they use their products because they are beautiful, not to make them beautiful.
Secondly, the name Beaute Nouveau is inspired by the Art Nouveau movement of the early 20th century. This art movement is seen by many as not just a style of art, but as a social movement as well. It was a time of much upheaval in the social classes and huge wealth discrepancies and Artists of the Nouveau style were leaders in progressing social change. For the first time, Artists were setting their prices and value was being placed on skill and creativity, not just on the cost of the materials. They were also being paid for their time, and they were taking it. They were creating one of a kind masterpieces in all kinds of mediums and using nature and organic lines as inspiration. They were not accepting the definition of what the bourgeoisie considered art, or beautiful; the Artists were setting new definitions.
That is the piece that most inspired our name, Beaute Nouveau. We feel like we are in a parallel time when definitions of beauty are being set by big industry, and these definitions are being exploited to sell products, billions and billions of dollars of products. Their marketing tells us that we use products to make us beautiful, not because we are already beautiful and deserve to use lovely potions.
We are also in a time when mass produced products with patented ingredients, squirted into lifeless jars by giant machines are thought to "work" better than natural ingredients. We smirk at the idea of hand made products as a nice idea, but not effective agents of anti-aging. Many people would rather purchase a jar full of plastics, preservatives, and fragrance endorsed by a celebrity, than trust the hand made, small batch product with their beauty.
We named Beaute Nouveau as an homage to Art Nouveau, to inspire whoever is ready, to fall back in love with artisanal, botanical potions, made intentionally in ateliers. To shift their mindset from using products to make them beautiful, to using products because they are beautiful. To build up their confidence every day with gentle self care, preservation, and belief in their self-worth and value.
Beaute Nouveau is a heart-centered company, driven by Vision, Mission, Passion, and Purpose, and Values. These principals guide us in all that we do.
Our Vision is: to live in a world where all women are beautifully taken care of, appreciated, and celebrated.
Our Mission is: to support the care of modern women.
Our Passion is: mixing botanical ingredients into the most luxurious self-care products.
Our Purpose is: to pour love into jars, so when our customers use our crafts, they feel like they are wrapped in a big hug from people out there who care about them and want them to live their best lives every day. We want to boost your self-love so we can all soar a little higher.
We are proud to be hand made in San Diego, and be part of the San Diego Skin Care community.

Chia seeds are a great way to add both flavor and texture to your food. They are a great source of plant-based omega-3 fatty acids and a good source of fiber. They are also a good source of protein, magnesium, and calcium. They are not only nutritious, but they also add a nice crunch to your food. They can be used as a topping, they can be mixed into smoothies, or they can be used as a thickener for sauces. Chia seeds are a great way to add a healthy boost to your diet.
Chia seeds are an excellent food to add to your diet. Not only are they packed with healthy nutrients, but they are also very versatile. They can be used in a variety of dishes, from breakfast to dessert. Here are 15 of our favorite chia pudding recipes.
We love this pudding because it is sweet and spicy and chocccooooalllatey! Add 1/2 cup of Chia Seed to a bowl. Add 2 tbsps of Pumpkin Spice Spice Mix, 1 tsp of Ground Ginger powder, 1 tsp of Cardamom powder, 1/3 cup of unsweetened Cocoa (or Cacao) powder, and 1 tbsp of Monkfruit Sugar (or preferred sugar alternative). In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup of hot water with 1 cup of Coconut Milk (or preferred milk). Add water and milk mixture to the Chia Seeds and mix thoroughly. Once mixed, place pudding mixture in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight. Scoop into dishes to eat and top with raspberries, blueberries, and or raw walnut pieces. Enjoy!
We love this recipe because it is savory, hearty, and fulfilling! This is a perfect recipe to prepare ahead at night to have ready to go in the morning.
Add 1/4 cup of Chia Seeds and 1 cup of Riced Cauliflower to a bowl. Add 2 cups of hot water, leave out over night. Make one serving size of Steel Cut Oats following the instructions on the oats and set aside for the morning. In the morning, drain any left over water in the Chia Cauliflower mix and add the mix to the oats. Heat up and combine over low heat on the stovetop. Add some sea salt to taste and add some extra warmth with a sprinkle of coriander and cumin. Top with microgreens and float a some vegetable stock (like milk onto sweet oatmeal!) Add a soft boiled, or poached egg to the top if you want!

There are plenty of products on the market, but many of them contain ingredients we'd rather not put on our face, or our bodies. Unfortunately, there are also many ingredients and ingredients lists that are not disclosed, making it difficult to know what you're putting on your body. To help you avoid the dirty cosmetic ingredients, as well as learn more about them, we've created a list of the top five ingredients you should avoid, what each of them are, and why it's important to know about them.
Many people don't know that many cosmetic products contain ingredients that are bad for their health. For example, many products contain cosmetic ingredients that can accumulate in the body and can become hormone disruptors, toxic to the nervous system, irritate sensitive skin and cause allergies. Many people don't know this, but the cosmetic ingredients in their beauty products can have a big impact on their health. It is important to know what ingredients are in the products that you use, and the effects that these ingredients can have on your body. People should avoid these ingredients and look for products that do not contain them.
So, how do you know what cosmetic ingredients you should use or avoid?
We make the decision simple. We want you to look for 5 dirty cosmetic ingredients on the label. If you find any of these on a label, most likely there are all kinds of other dirty cosmetic ingredients you will want to avoid as well.
Basically, if you can remember these simple 5 dirty cosmetic ingredients and look out for them on your labels, you will know which products to purchase, and which ones to avoid.
Most often, we know as "baby oil" and most people have heard that mineral oil should be avoided, but why? Mineral oil is a liquid by-product of refining crude oil to make gasoline and other petroleum products. Mineral oil is the first of the 5 dirty cosmetic ingredients to look for because it is liquid petroleum jelly…just like that yellow goo in your grandparent’s medicine cabinet. Some mainstream cosmetic companies claim that the mineral oils they use in their manufacturing have been ultra-purified and have been used for over 100 years. We will leave it up to you to decide if purified petroleum jelly is your preference for your skin, or if the big box beauty companies use it because it is cheap, shelf stable for a very long time, and is status-quo. Here are two great articles to read for yourself from INstyle and Loreal.
TCB Arrow Plastics and Rubber Manufacturing shares that “Silicone is used in a huge range of car parts, such as airbags, hydraulic bearings, ignition cables, shock absorbers and headlamps. You might be wearing it! Silicone is used in a variety of make-ups, cleansers, shampoos and other personal care products to improve shine and texture.” We will leave it up to you to decide if the same ingredient that makes airbags and headlamps is an ingredient you want to rub on your skin, or if you consider it one of the top 5 dirty cosmetic ingredients to avoid. Sidenote: Silicone is the main ingredient in shower caulking.
Dimethicone is a silicon-based polymer used as a lubricant and conditioning agent. There are mixed reviews on Dimethicone’s safety and effectiveness. Medical News Today shares the pros and cons beautifully. On the one hand it is noted as non-comedogenic and most likely will not clog pores, that it may be safe for humans but not the environment, and it may be considered as natural or lab-made given that it is created by heating sand with carbon at high temperatures. We don't agree that not clogging pores is our only concern with skin health, and we aren't quite sure how an ingredient can be good for humans if it's not good for the environment, and we aren't quite comfortable that melted sand and carbon should be considered natural in the skin care sense. The biggest aha moment for us with this ingredient is the statement “past animal testing also found no evidence of toxicity for dimethicone.” So, this needed to be animal tested? We’re out. Also, if dimethicone is made from silicone, and silicone is on our dirty cosmetic ingredient list, then so is dimethicone.
Acrylates are derived from acrylic acid and are commonly found in cosmetic nail preparations. That is why they are called acrylic nails! Basically, the same plastics used to make acrylic nails are in skin care and makeup! We have a hard time understanding why the same ingredients used to make acrylic nails would ever be used in our skin care and therefore deem acrylates as a dirty cosmetic ingredient. In addition, health concerns include cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, organ-system toxicity, and irritation.
We love this article by the Australian Academy of Science called: Polymers: From DNA to rubber ducks. It explains that “Natural polymers include silk, hair, proteins and DNA, while synthetic (man-made) polymers include polyethylene, polypropylene and polyester.” We concede that if the polymers in that face cream are natural made from silk, hair, proteins, and DNA, they may be wonderful, but if they come from polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyester, which all come from petroleum (which we like to think of as the king of dirty cosmetic ingredients), we think we’d rather the polymers only be used for rubber ducks.
This article provides a list of 5 dirty cosmetic ingredients that are simple to remember and easy to spot on any cosmetic ingredient list. It has shared tips on how to avoid the use of certain chemicals in cosmetics and why they are important to know about and avoid. It also provides advice on how to choose products to purchase based on what dirty cosmetic ingredients to leave behind. This article provides a list of what we call dirty cosmetic ingredients, as well as why they are not safe and what they are made of.

Soap Scrubs are available in two scents: Nourish and Essential.
They are made from whipped soap + sugar to cleanse and exfoliate.
Nourish Soap Scrub is gently scented with Rose, Sandalwood, and Sweet Orange and is sultry, warm, and delicate. Essential Soap Scrub is gently scented with Peppermint, Eucalyptus, and Sweet Orange and is bright, invigorating, and robust.
You want an exfoliator that also cleanses. You want a body scrub that leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean. You want an exfoliator that turns into a creamy soap that is perfect for shaving.
1. Cleanse skin with bar soap.
2. Scoop a shell-sized scoop of scrub into the palm of your hands, add a bit of water, and rub hands together.
3. Massage scrub anywhere on body (avoid face and décolleté).
4. Massage until the sugar is mostly dissolved, rinse thoroughly.
5.* BONUS: once the sugar has dissolved, use the creamy soap base as a shaving 'cream'!
FUN FACT: Soap Scrubs are the perfect way to prepare for a spray tan because they exfoliate, cleanse, and soften the skin, without leaving any residue on the skin that may inhibit the spray tan liquid from adhering evenly.
They are made from botanical butters and oils + sugar to moisturize and exfoliate.
You want an exfoliator that also moisturizes. You want a body scrub that leaves your skin feeling buttery soft. You want an exfoliator that also takes the place of body cream! Your skin is extra-dry. Use this all over your body and also as a regular hand treatment at your kitchen sink.
1. Cleanse skin with bar soap.
2. Scoop a shell-sized scoop of scrub into the palm of your hands, add a bit of water, and rub hands together.
3. Massage scrub anywhere on body (avoid face and décolleté).

Crème Nouveau is our Crème de la Crème for facial moisture. It is rich and buttery, and packed full of oils and nutrients that are known to hydrate, nourish, and boost glow! It doubles as a day and night cream, and is also for your eye area, neck, and decollate.
It is our most nourishing, most rich-textured crème, and has one amazing benefit that may really surprise you! Crème Nouveau's key ingredient is a natural sulfur called MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) that over time will melt congestion from pores and reduce acne in many cases.
CREME NOUVEAU IS FOR YOU IF:
You are looking for "anti-aging" (although we prefer the word "preserve-aging" because we respect aging and the life that comes with it!). If you are looking for rich moisture and radiance. If your powder looks too "powdery." If your skin's thirst is insatiable.
Crème Calm is our Crème for the most sensitive skin, OR if Crème Nouveau is just a little too rich. Most people with sensitive skin fair quite well with Crème Nouveau, but Crème Calm is for the super sensitive. Its focus is calming, soothing, and nourishing with a blend of lightweight oils. It has minimal ingredients with optimal results to give sensitive skin a rest.
Crème Calm doubles as a day and night cream, and is also for your eye area, neck, and decollate.
CREME CALM IS FOR YOU IF:
You are looking for rich moisture and radiance, but Crème Nouveau is too rich. If your skin is super sensitive and prone to redness and irritation. If you are going through extra stressful life circumstances that are causing your skin to be in a state of high anxiety, or what we call sensitized (what our brain is going through shows up through our skin because all of our cells are connected).
Crème Balance is our lightest-weight moisturizer, and more consistent with a lotion texture. It is the perfect option for younger skins starting their skincare career, or anyone who prefers a lightweight lotion experience.
Crème Balance contains Passionflower Extract which is an antioxidant known to reduce stress in the skin, and is known to relax hormone related breakouts. Allantoin is derived from the comfrey leaf and accelerates healing from breakouts. Raspberry seed oil is ultra lightweight, absorbs quickly, is non-greasy, and is a powerhouse for fighting inflammation. Jasmine Sambac is a coveted essential oil known for its gorgeous scent, but it is also soothing and calming.
Crème Balance doubles as a day and night cream, and is also for your neck and decollate. We do suggest pairing it with a 10ml jar of Crème Nouveau to use as your Eye Cream.
CREME BALANCE IS FOR YOU IF:
You prefer a lightweight lotion. If you are less than 25ish years of age and just getting started with skincare. If your skin is dry in some areas and more oily in others. If you have active breakouts and want to work up to Crème Nouveau. If you want a pump bottle option for your gym or travel bag
INDUSTRY SECRET: Many mainstream luxury skin care companies often use the word crème to refer to their moisturizers that have the thickest consistency (and the biggest price tag). Unfortunately, many of them are thickened up with petroleum bases and their value doesn't match their price.
For example:
CHANEL's Sublimage la Crème 1.7 oz jar is $420 and the first 10 ingredients are: Water, Glycerin, Octydodecanol, Jojoba seed oil (thank goodness!), Squalane (aka unedible olive oil), Cetearyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Canola Oil (goodness gracious, canola oil?!), C13-16 Isoparaffin (what candles are made out of), and Butylene Glycol. The caboose of the list is Red No. 4, Yellow No. 6, and Yellow No. 5.
LA MER'S Crème de la Mer 2.0 oz jar is $380 and the main base ingredients of the creme are Algae Extract, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum (white petroleum), Glycerin, Isohexadecane, and Microcrystalline Wax, with a caboose of preservatives at the end including Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Benzoate, Sodium Benzoate, Alcohol Denat., Fragrance (Parfum).
Crème Nouveau Ingredients: Kokum butter, Shea butter, Apricot Kernel oil, Grape Seed oil, Organic Glycerin (plant based); Oils of: Babassu, Argan, Black Currant, Baobab, Borage, Camelia, Primrose, Kukui , Meadowfoam, & Rosehips; Local Raw Bees Wax, Extracts of: Arnica, Cranberry, Comfrey, Green Tea, Olive Leaf, Rosehip, & Sea Kelp; Allantoin, Camu Camu Fruit, Acerola Berry, MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane - a natural sulfur to help clear pores); and Essential Oils of: Rosewood, Palmarosa, Elemi, Helichrysum, & Chamomile.
JUST, FYI 😊.
Did you 💗 love our Slim Tonique Body Oil? Wonder what happened to it?
Did you know we just changed the name to Essential Body Oil and made it part of our new Essential Collection!?
The Oil contains the same wonderful oils and essential oils that make it fantastic for increasing circulation and lymphatic detoxification.
We just decided that the word Slim had worn out its welcome, and shifted to Essential because it is full of essential oils and also essential for caring for our skin through lymphatic affection.
This blend of oils and essential oils is known to be beneficial for dry, dull, and congested skin. This oil is concentrated with our proprietary detoxifying blend of essential oils known for purifying skin and increasing circulation.
Grape Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Essentials Oils of Black Pepper, Bay Laurel, Citronella, Grapefruit, Geranium, and Fennel.
Massage directly onto dry or damp skin, mix with Body Cream, use as a Massage Oil, or add a few pumps to a bath.
We upgraded our beloved 'Baby Bump' by adding more Cocoa Butter, unfiltered Apricot Oil, and Rice Bran Oil to make it even more rich and nourishing (hence, the name Nourish)!
We also added a 'lil' Sandalwood, Rose, Sweet Orange fragrance oil and grouped it into the new Nourish collection of products (it was so lonely before!)
Nourish Butter Balm is still excellent for caring for a 'baby bump' and is also wonderful for anyone who loves a Butter Balm!
And as always, it makes a wonderful baby shower gift! 🎁
We believe that exfoliating after moisturizing is ideal for two reasons. First, dead skin is like a dry scab 🤢. We all know what happens when you pick a scab; it doesn't come off evenly and can expose vulnerable skin that isn't ready for the world. Trying to scrub off dried out dead skin can have the same result. It is best to prepare dead skin for removal, by rehydrating and softening it. Applying Creme Nouveau or Creme Calm, both rich in saturated fats from Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, and Babassu Oil, will rehydrate, soften, and "unstick" dead skin cells, and allow for a gentle separation from the young, living skin cells. Think of this like soaking a pan: when you soak it overnight, the mess just lifts off, no need for intense scrubbing. When dead skin is easily lifted off, there is less chance of damaging the fresh skin underneath.
Second, dead skin cells act as a barrier between living skin cells and the world. As soon as those dead skin cells are exfoliated, the living skin cells are touched by the environment...and the oxidation process begins. Just like an apple begins to oxidize and brown as soon as it is cut open. However, if the living cells are swaddled in Creme Nouveau or Creme Calm, they already have a layer of protection and antioxidants in between them and the environment.
FUN FACT: If you find that your moisturizer is not absorbing into your skin...or it 'sits on top of your skin' - that means there is dead skin buildup. Using Scrub Buds 1-2 x per week will make a tremendous difference in the texture of your skin, but also in how your treatment products can absorb, as well as and how your makeup looks and wears throughout the day.
Apply Creme Nouveau or Creme Calm to cleansed skin.
Soak two Scrub Buds in a small bowl with warm to hot water for 5 minutes.
Put one Scrub Bud on the tip of your right pointer finger.
Using circular motions, gently massage the Scrub Bud all over the right side of your face, eye area, eyebrows, lips, and neck, and at the every end, your ear!
NOTE: twist the Scrub Bud on your finger periodically for fresh space.
Repeat steps 3-4 for the left side of your face.
Discard Scrub Buds when finished; they are not reusable.
Scrub Buds can be used 1-2 times per week.
Raise your hand if you like a creamy, sudsy, lather when wash your face🙋♀️!? Well, there are two ways to do that: 1: wash it with soap, or 2: wash it with a foaming face wash...a.k.a. detergents + surfactants + foaming agents.
Whuuuut? Detergents + Surfactants + Foaming Agents!?
Before we had foaming face washes, and liquid cleansers in pump bottles, we had soap and cold cream to wash our faces.
In the 80's, the big-chemical companies introduced detergent based cleansers whose lather was created with surfactants and foaming agents. They really needed our buy-in (literally and figuratively), so in order to get consumers to switch from soaps and cold creams, the marketing told us that soap and cold cream would unbalance our pH and cause acne and the new cleansers leave our skin clean and refreshed, acne free, and pH balanced!
Well, we know now that detergent based cleansers can cause a lot of harm. They can disrupt the microbiome and hormones of our skin, unbalance the pH, strip the skin of natural oils, and potentially cause acne and other issues.
That is why we are a huge fan of ol' fashioned, beautiful soap and really want to overturn the myth that soap is bad for us. However, not all soap is created equally. A lot of soap is made with unsaturated fats, palm oil, glycerin, water, and fragrance, which can make it too harsh for delicate facial skin. At Beaute Nouveau, we use saturated fats: Shea Butter and Virgin Coconut Oil, and rich Goat Milk, and then we super-fat it with Almond Oil. We also use Rosewood Essential Oil. These ingredients make a rich and creamy lather that gently cleanses. Actually, the Virgin Coconut Oil is what creates the lather!
FUN FACT: The same detergents, surfactants, and foaming agents that are in mainstream foaming facial cleansers are the same as the ones in dishwashing liquid and laundry soap.
DID YOU KNOW: Most mainstream luxury French skin care companies offer facial bar soaps as a very luxurious and expensive option for facial cleansing?
For example....
CHANEL's Facial Bar Soap Sublimage La Savon de Soin is $110 and includes quite a list of chemicals such as propylene glycol and phenoxyethanol (both petroleum derivatives), sodium laureth sulfate (surfactant) etc. Thank goodness there is a 'lil' shea butter and vanilla plantifolia extract though 😉.
CLE DE PEAU'S Facial Bar Soap Synactif is also $110 and has a laundry list (pun intended) of petroleum derivatives, surfactants, preservatives.
PS: soap should not need preservatives.
Chanel's other cleansers are $50 and Cle de Peau's are $75...
Isn't it interesting that their Bar Soaps are $110?
Soap for thought.
1. We Melt Shea Butter + Virgin Coconut Oil to liquid (These are saturated fats).
2. We blend in a mixture of Lye* + Distilled Water into the melted Shea Butter + Virgin Coconut Oil.
*When Lye + Water are mixed into with the Shea Butter + Coconut Oil, there is an instant chemical reaction called saponification. The reaction causes the mixture to increase to roughly 300 degrees F, which essentially "cooks" the oil to make it soap. During the process, these 4 individual ingredients transform into soap...meaning they are no longer what they were when we started. *Lye is what causes the reaction - it's like the magic wand that transforms oil into soap.
3. After the reaction has occurred, we blend in ice-cold Goat Milk to start the cooling process and add more fats and liquid to thin the soap.
4. Then we blend in Almond Oil to super-fat the soap, which will make the lather extra rich and creamy.
5. Finally, we blend in the Rosewood Essential Oil and pour the final mixture into our rose shaped soap mold trays where they will sit for 3-5 days to cure before we place them in their boxes.
First up...Rough Heals. How do we get baby soft heals...without using that horrid cheese grater thing? (please, don't ever use one of those!)
First, you are going to need a foot file and we have one of the best foot files there is on our website! (Did you know that pumice stones can actually make the roughness worse, because they are so scraggly...they actually tear the skin and exfoliate unevenly?) Next, you'll need our Unscented Body Cream with Magnesium and Allantoin. (Its a big bottle, but its UH-MAZING for your whole body too).
Here is the trick and it is kinda' gross, but also great.
Here goes. Right after you get out of the shower, sit on the toilet (with the lid down obvi) and towel dry ONE foot. Immediately, start rubbing the Foot File back and forth on all of the callused areas of your foot, moving from area to area. At first, nothing much will happen. Buuuut keep rubbing... all of a sudden, your foot will be just the right amount of moist and dry at the same time, and the skin will start to roll off as you file! It will just keep rolling and rolling off, until suddenly, it will stop. Then rinse your foot, towel it off again, and apply the Unscented Body Cream with Magnesium and Allantoin (be careful that your feet aren't slippery). Magnesium strengthens the newly exposed skin and Allantoin helps skin "knit-back-together" evenly, for accelerated healing after the great scrub-off.
Now, you'd think that you could just switch feet, and do the other, but you actually have to do the other foot the next day. There is a very specific window of time after getting out of the shower for this to work. And, by the time you are done with one foot, the window closes. Especially in the beginning when you are breaking down the roughest old skin.
Even after the first treatment, your feet will be so soft! And, if you do this once a week for a few weeks in a row, you should notice a tremendous difference in your feet!
We love using this analogy for washing our face without removing all of the makeup (face AND eye!), dirt, sunscreen, pollution, and dead skin that builds up throughout the day. We're just sloshing all the gunk around if we jump straight into a soap-based cleanser!
The result of adding Yuzu Oil Cleanser to your nightly routine is cleaner, softer, smoother skin, with less pore congestion over time. Your makeup will also wear longer and smoother!
There are definitely some need-to-knows about HOW TO USE and get the best result from Oil Cleansing - watch our video below!
Prepare your skin for a good nights rest by taking off all that has built up during the day.
Yuzu Oil Cleanser is an Eye & Face Makeup Remover that breaks down makeup and loosens dead skin cells so they can be "swept up" with damp cotton pads. Yuzu is a luxurious citrus essential oil that breaks up congestion deep in the pores. Skin becomes softer and more refined with nightly oil cleansing in preparation for washing the skin with one of our soap-based cleansers.
Watch to find out what "ballet fingers" are and how they help!
The results speak for themselves!

Can you tell we like a Konjac Sponge? 😂
Konjac Sponges are a simple game changer for cleansing! They are made from 100% natural konjac fiber from the konjac root (very similar to a potato). These sponges absorb a ton of water and reduce the amount of cleaner you need to use. They also balance the pH of the skin, reduce acne and breakouts, and gently exfoliate. They are extremely soft, and help give a much more even cleansing experience than using fingertips. They last for about 2-3 months.
